EU Motor Insurance Directive 2009/103/EC (Former 4th MID)

The 2009/103/EC MID implies that if an EU/EEC citizen is a victim in an accident in another EU/EEC country, he/she may direct the claim to a representative in the victim's country of residence.

Information Centre
The Danish Ministry of Justice has appointed DFIM as information centre in Denmark in accordance with the 2009/103/EC MID.

The information centre provides insurance details of Danish vehicles and the foreign claims representatives in the victim's country of residence. For further information about the tasks of the Danish information centre, please click here.

Compensation Body
The Danish Ministry of Justice has appointed DFIM as compensation body in accordance with the 2009/103/EC MID.

In connection with accidents taking place outside of Denmark, DFIM as compensation body handles claims when the offending party's foreign insurance company has not appointed a claims representative in Denmark. The Danish victim must then direct the claim to DFIM.

DFIM also handles claims if the offending vehicle's insurance company or the company's Danish claims representative has not - within the period of three months - accepted or rejected the claim or noted that acceptance/rejection cannot be made without additional information.

If the accident outside Denmark is caused by an unidentified or uninsured foreign vehicle, there is no Danish claims representative to whom the Danish claimant may direct the claim. In such cases the victim should also direct the claim to the Danish compensation body (DFIM).
